If you are experiencing difficulties with your rent or would like to talk about rent payment or any queries in relation to your rent, then you can contact the rents team on 0800 085 65 75.
It is worth remembering that it is best to tackle rent arrears early when the debt is more manageable. The Rents Team is there to help and will give you debt counselling and advice on what to do about the other debts.
The Rents Team play an important role in offering you invaluable advice and dealing with any rent difficulties you have. We can provide a range of solutions to help you if you have fallen in arrears.
When a payment is not received on time we will write to you. We expect you to make a payment or contact the Customer Service Centre or your local area housing office and explain why the payment is late and when it will be made. If you fail to pay or contact us, we will arrange to interview you to discuss the reason for non-payment and to see if there is any advice or help we can give. We will make an agreement with you regarding payment of the arrears and you will be expected to keep to it.
If the agreement is broken or you do not contact us, we will start legal proceedings to recover the arrears that could lead to eviction. The first step will be to serve a legal notice advising you that we will be going to court if the debt is not paid.
If we go to court, legal costs will be added to the amount you owe. If the judge orders an eviction that is on condition that you pay according to the court order, you must pay regularly. If you don’t, you are likely to be evicted.
To avoid any unnecessary rent arrears problems talk to us. We are here to help.
