New tenant's responsibilities

There will be some arrangements that you will be responsible for. These include:

  • Arranging your own gas and electricity supplier and or meters, and providing those suppliers with a current meter reading.
  • Arrange an appointment for a final gas check.
  • Arrange for your appliances such as gas/electric cookers and washing machines to be fitted by a qualified person (this is at your own expense). You are also responsible for any repairs to your appliances
  • Arrange contents insurance
  • Carry out any decoration to the property. We will not normally decorate except in exceptional circumstances, such as you are disabled or elderly and have no younger or able-bodied member of the household who can help
  • Informing your bank, utilities providers, benefits department, Council Tax office or any other companies of your change of address

We also expect you to:

  • Take care of the property
  • Report any repairs to our Customer Service Centre on 0800 085 65 75. You can also report repairs using our Online Repairs Service
  • Be patient while waiting for larger planned works, e.g. new kitchens
  • Allow us access to complete gas safety and yearly checks to your heating system
  • To be happy in your new home.

If you have any questions about your new home contact the officer dealing with your letting or contact the Customer Service Centre.
